New “Write Through the Bible” Handwriting Workbooks: Now in KJV

Psalms KJV Covers Handwriting WorkbooksBack in March, we were not prepared for the response we got when we released our original Write Through the Bible handwriting workbooks. Within 48 hours of release, thousands of people downloaded the workbooks. Thousands more have downloaded them since then.

We also received great feedback from those who got the original workbooks. Probably the #1 thing we heard was, “Can you make some workbooks using the King James Version?”

So we have.

You can now purchase our Psalms workbooks in KJV, both manuscript and cursive editions.

You can also check out all the available titles of Write Through the Bible in our online store.

Coming next: We hope to have the Ten Commandments and Philippians 2 workbooks available in KJV by the end of June.

If you have any passages you think would make great copywork workbooks, let us know!

5 Great Bible Verses for Kids to Memorize About Anger

5 Bible Verses for Kids to Memorize on AngerParents and kids alike can easily give into ungodly anger. It is important for families to renew their minds with God’s truth to combat these impulses and help us get to the heart of anger.

Not all anger is wrong—on the contrary, God Himself manifests anger. Godly anger gets mad at the right things, in the right way, for the right duration, with the proper control, with the right motives, and strives for the right impact. Often human anger lacks most of these qualities.

4 Short Passages

Proverbs 16:32

“Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.”

This is a great verse for kids to grasp, especially boys who love to play “King of the Hill” or build forts. They love stories of valiant warriors who can break through the enemy lines to take the fortress. Explain to your kids, “You have a tendency to be quick to anger. But if you learn how to master your own heart, you will be mightier than the mightiest warrior.”  [Read more...]

5 Great Bible Verses for Kids to Memorize About Anxiety

In times of anxiety, our children need God’s truth to fill their minds. Below are a few ideas. I recommend choosing one of these passages or chapters and make it a point to study it together as a family. Use the cards provided to help your family memorize the text.

3 Short Passages

5 Bible Verses for Kids to Memorize on anxietyProverbs 18:10

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”

The “name of the Lord” signifies his character, the kind of God He is. The righteous person clings to the God he knows by name and is safe. A very beneficial activity for parents as you memorize this is to do a litte study with your kids about the various names of God in Scripture, linking them to this verse.

Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” [Read more...]

How to Train Your Kids to Memorize Scripture in 5 Minutes a Day

How to Train Your Kids to Memorize Scripture in 5 Minutes a DayFor every Christian family, especially when kids are young, memorizing Scripture together is a great goal to have as a family. Dallas Willard, a philosophy professor at USC, says, “Bible memorization is absolutely fundamental to spiritual formation. If I had to choose between all the disciplines of the spiritual life, I would choose Bible memorization, because it is a fundamental way of filling our minds with what it needs.”*

This is why we are hosting our first webinar on May 2nd: “How to Train Your Kids to Memorize Scripture in 5 Minutes a Day.” The 9:00 PM (EST) time is over capacity. We are now offering a second time: 11:00 PM (EST).

Why Memorize Scripture?

Children have an amazing capacity for memorization. Knowing this, parents can have kids spend their formative years memorizing key Biblical texts. The Bible uses many vivid expressions for memorizing Scripture: [Read more...]

The Pilgrim’s Progress (Week 13 of 13)

Paved with Good Intentions: Ignorance

Pilgrim's Progress Book Club on IntoxicatedOnLife.comIgnorance is a character that shows up toward the end of The Pilgrim’s Progress. Christian and Hopeful have a lengthy dialogue with him, revealing more of this character’s real beliefs and motives.

In our study of the “bad guys” of Pilgrim’s Progress, Ignorance helps us see the importance of orthodox theology when it comes to salvation. Do we rely on Christ alone to make us holy before God, or do we rely on our own works?

Getting Started: Read read the ninth and tenth stages of Pilgrim’s Progress.

1. Character sketch of Ignorance:

a. Ignorance is from the Country of Conceit which is connected to the King’s Highway by a crooked lane (see Proverbs 26:12 and Psalm 125:5).  [Read more...]

The Pilgrim’s Progress (Week 12 of 13)

Tickling Itching Ears: The Flatterer

pilgrim's progressThe Flatterer is one of the villains the pilgrim’s meet in their journey in The Pilgrim’s Progress. While the Shepherds of the Delectable Mountains prepare Christian and Hopeful, both fall into the Flatterer’s trap.

In our study of the “bad guys” of Pilgrim’s Progress, this scene helps us understand the great importance of listening to the counsel of those who have charge over us.

Getting Started: Read all of the eighth stage and the beginning of the ninth stage of Pilgrim’s Progress.

1. The pilgrims come to the Delectable Mountains (another picture of the church)

a. These mountains belong to Immanuel (see Isaiah 8:8).

b. They are filled with gardens, orchards, vineyards, and fountains—free at the disposal of all who come to it.

c. They are within sight of the Celestial City.

d. It is where the sheep are fed: the one’s for whom Immanuel has laid down his life (see John 10:14-18).  [Read more...]

5 Great Ideas to Help You Choose Bible Memory Verses for Kids

Many Christian parents desire their children to memorize Scripture, and for good reason. With a strong parental tone, Solomon instructed his students to treasure his commands: “bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart” (Proverbs 7:1-3).

But what passages are best to memorize?

All Scripture is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16). You will not find some verses “more inspired” than others. But if we are looking for a place to start, we should start in the places the Bible itself defines as central. Below you will find 5 tips for finding Bible memory verses for kids.

5 Great Ideas to Help You Choose Bible Memory Verses for Kids

1. Choose creedal passages

In all of Paul’s letters, there is only one place where he says something is of “first importance”: the message of 1 Corinthians 15:3-7. There he summarizes his gospel, speaking of Christ’s death, burial, resurrection, and appearances. This is a great example of a “creedal” passage. [Read more...]

The Pilgrim’s Progress (Week 11 of 13)

The Prison of Doubt: Giants Despair and Diffidence

pilgrim's progressIn our study of the “bad guys” of Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, we come to one of my favorite scenes: Christian and Hopeful’s capture by Giant Despair. For anyone who has ever wrestled with self-condemnation or doubt in one’s salvation, this story is very instructive.

The pilgrims narrowly escape the Giant. Had they not escaped, we later learn they would have been blinded and forced to roam endlessly among the tombs.

Getting Started: Read the end of the seventh stage of Pilgrim’s Progress.

1. Christian and Hopeful find the By-path Meadow

a. Before this, the straight way was easy, filled with delightful fruits and water and places to rest. But the way becomes rough on their feet, which leads to discouragement and desiring an easier way (see Numbers 21:4-5)

b. They see a meadow off the straight way but running parallel to it. After crossing over it is much easier on their feet.

c. Initially concerned this might detour them, they meet Vain-confidence who tells them this way will also lead to the Celestial Gate (see Proverbs 14:12). They believe him without scrutinizing and follow him.  [Read more...]

5 Important Reasons to Educate Your Daughters

Every now and then we run into someone in the homeschooling world who believes that rigorously educating girls is a waste of time. Why educate your daughter when you believe her highest calling in life is to be a stay-at-home wife and mother?

To clarify, we don’t really agree with the above assumption anyway. A woman’s highest aim in life is to glorify and enjoy God, regardless of her vocation or station in life.5 Important Reasons to Educate Your Daughters

But let’s just say, for the sake of argument, that you believe the best kind of life your daughter can have is married to a godly man and staying home to look after children. Let’s say as your daughter grows up, this becomes her aspiration as well. Should that lead you to downplay the value of a good education for her?

We would say, “Absolutely not.” Here are several reasons why. [Read more...]
