New “Write Through the Bible” Handwriting Workbooks: Now in KJV

Psalms KJV Covers Handwriting WorkbooksBack in March, we were not prepared for the response we got when we released our original Write Through the Bible handwriting workbooks. Within 48 hours of release, thousands of people downloaded the workbooks. Thousands more have downloaded them since then.

We also received great feedback from those who got the original workbooks. Probably the #1 thing we heard was, “Can you make some workbooks using the King James Version?”

So we have.

You can now purchase our Psalms workbooks in KJV, both manuscript and cursive editions.

You can also check out all the available titles of Write Through the Bible in our online store.

Coming next: We hope to have the Ten Commandments and Philippians 2 workbooks available in KJV by the end of June.

If you have any passages you think would make great copywork workbooks, let us know!

Tools to Help Your Child Transition from the Grammar to the Logic Stage

The transition from the grammar to the logic stage of learning for some children is a difficult one. The educational demands increase. Students must begin to not only memorize facts, but learn how to analyze facts and decipher how they are connected. This doesn’t always come easily.

Transitioning from the Grammar to the Logic Stage

Helping Your Child Transition from the Grammar to the Logic StageThe grammar stage is typically considered the years a child spends in 1st through 4th grade (these grades can vary depending on what source you’re reading). During these years the child is learning the “grammar” of each subject. They are learning the basic skills of mathematics and language arts. They’re becoming familiar with literature, history, science, art, music, and more. Hopefully, they’re gaining enjoyment from these subjects as they explore them. This is the perfect stage to immerse your children in knowledge and help train their brains to memorize information. They are sponges during this period of life.

The logic stage is typically considered the years a child spends in 5th through 8th grade. During these years the child is learning to reason. This is when critical thinking skills begin. A child must sometimes make very difficult shift from simply learning facts to figuring out how those facts relate to each other and apply to the world around them.  [Read more...]

Bradley, our 8-year-old, loves the Latin curriculum we use, called Visual Latin. We asked him if he wouldn’t mind sharing why he likes it so much.

This is what he told us…

You can learn more about the Visual Latin curriculum in our review or visit the Compass Classroom store to download some free lessons.

10 Astronomy Videos My Students Loved

10 Fantastic Videos for Teaching AstronomyLast year, in our homeschool co-op, I taught a group of high school students about classical astronomy. This year I switched to teaching grammar-level students. It has been so much fun watching little eyes light up as I show off pictures of our solar system.

Throughout the year I’ve shown many different astronomy videos. Here are the students’ favorite ones.

10. Revolving Around Polaris

As the earth rotates on its axis, the stars appear to move through the sky throughout the night. Notice, in the center of the screen is the North Star, which doesn’t appear to move as the night passes.

Quiz for your child: What is the North Star’s name and why doesn’t it move in the sky?

How to End the Battle of the Chores with Your Kids!

“I don’t want toooooo!”

“Why do I always have to…”

“Are you going to make me do any more chores?”

If it’s not the whining and complaining, it’s just that I simply forget. As a busy homeschooling mama of 4 little boys, I get so busy working on my own tasks I don’t always think to assign tasks to my kids. I want my kids to be responsible and contribute to the work of the household.

How to End the Battle of the Chores with Your Kids!

I find that when my kids know what’s expected of them ahead of time, the complaining is greatly minimized. It makes sense. It’s a lot easier for me when doing a task if I know what is expected of me.

After the initial assembly of the Easy Peasy Chores system, planning your kids chores each day is a breeze! You don’t have to think about it, and they don’t have to wonder what Mom is going to ask them to do. They know exactly what is expected of them.  [Read more...]

5 Great Ideas to Help You Choose Bible Memory Verses for Kids

Many Christian parents desire their children to memorize Scripture, and for good reason. With a strong parental tone, Solomon instructed his students to treasure his commands: “bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart” (Proverbs 7:1-3).

But what passages are best to memorize?

All Scripture is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16). You will not find some verses “more inspired” than others. But if we are looking for a place to start, we should start in the places the Bible itself defines as central. Below you will find 5 tips for finding Bible memory verses for kids.

5 Great Ideas to Help You Choose Bible Memory Verses for Kids

1. Choose creedal passages

In all of Paul’s letters, there is only one place where he says something is of “first importance”: the message of 1 Corinthians 15:3-7. There he summarizes his gospel, speaking of Christ’s death, burial, resurrection, and appearances. This is a great example of a “creedal” passage. [Read more...]
