The Best eBook Bundle Sale Ever. Seriously.

This sale is now over.

I love that card in Monopoly that says, “Bank error in your favor. Collect $100.”

When I look at this eBundle sale going on right now, it reminds me of that. It makes me think somebody didn’t do the math right on this one. How can I get more than $700 worth of stuff for $29.97?

Learn more in this short video my wife made. (Isn’t she crafty?)

We’re honored to be asked to include our Write Through the Bible curriculum in this eBundle next to so many great ebooks, curriculum, and ecourses.

As you can see, there are a ton of resources in this. Of course, I don’t plan on using all of these books, but if you plan on using even a tenth of them, you save money (not to mention all of the bonus offers that we’re totally psyched about).

You can buy the bundle right now, or get a complete list of all the stuff in the bundle.

Pamper Mom: DIY Mother’s Day Gift for Non-Craftsy Types

I love making gifts for my family, but I’m not a very craftsy type. That makes many of the DIY gifts floating around on the Internet pretty difficult. At Christmas, I was able to come up with a gift idea—I made our parents seasoning mixes (taco seasoning, chili seasoning, and ranch mix).  They turned out very tasty!

So, for Mother’s day I set out to find a great DIY gift idea.

What a cool idea for a book: Simple Scrubs to Make and Give. WOW! I love the recipes in this book. I can’t wait to try more of them. I especially love these recipes because they aren’t filled with the chemicals that are so prevalent in store-bought versions. [Read more...]

Natural Way to Soften your Laundry: Woolzies Dryer Balls

I was excited to be given a chance to check out Woolzies Dryer Balls. I’d heard about them. I’d read about them. Now, I’ve tried them!

As you may know, I make my own laundry detergent, which saves me oodles of money each year (and it’s super easy to make). I’ve been using white vinegar for softener in my washer – which also saves me money and is apparently much better for your septic system. Woolzies dryer balls are a great addition to my laundry routine.

What are Woolzies?

Woolzies Dryer Balls are hand-made, natural dryer balls. They are made from 100% New Zealand wool. Woolzies Dryer Balls naturally soften your clothes, reduce static, and reduce your laundry’s drying time.  [Read more...]

Back to School Sale Starting Today!

visual latin saleI’ve been quite negligent with my blog writing the past few days. You see, I’ve been spending tons of time helping to get our local homeschool group’s new website ready for online registration. I’ve also been working on some school planning for this coming year. I’m SO not ready to think about summer being over and school starting again!

Whether or not I’m ready, school season will be upon us before you know it. I wanted to pass along this awesome deal in case you’ve been considering using Visual Latin as part of your curriculum next year. Visual Latin is offering 30% off (use the code AUGUSTUS) for just one week beginning today!

If you’re interested in learning more about Visual Latin be sure to check out my review. If you’re still uncertain about the value of learning Latin, you may be interested in reading “7 Reasons Why I’m Learning Latin (and teaching my kids too).” I wouldn’t be so excited about telling all of my adoring fans readers about this great program if Bradley and I didn’t love it so much. If you decide to give it a whirl, I’d love to hear about your experience!

Another great sale going on is Economics for Everybody. They have a pre-sale going on for 35% off! It’s
a very cool curriculum if you are looking for economics. I was given a chance to review it prior to it’s release.

Economics for Everybody (Review)

Economics for Everybody: A great Christian economics curriculum with teacher RC SproulEconomics for Everybody is a new video curriculum produced by Compass Cinema in conjunction with Ligonier Ministries. The materials are taught by Dr. R.C. Sproul, Jr., and presented in a fun and captivating way. Dr. Sproul is an engaging and knowledgeable instructor. He is particularly suited to teach this series given his teaching background and his knowledge base in the Bible, different worldviews, and economics.

Why we like Compass Cinema

Luke and I have had the opportunity to use a number of products put out by Compass Cinema and have come to expect high caliber products from this company. Compass Cinema produced a Latin course from which my son and I have learned a lot and have greatly enjoyed called Visual Latin (if you’re considering a Latin curriculum, you should check out my review of this resource). Luke used the film Seek Social Justice as a supplement in teaching his Sunday school class and also plans to use their series Modern Parables this coming Fall. Needless to say, we have both been impressed  by the quality of materials put out by Compass Cinema and were excited to be given the opportunity to preview their newest project. [Read more...]

Healthy Homemade Yogurt Recipe

My family can eat a LOT of yogurt. The probiotics in yogurt are great for gut health, but all of the added sugar and fillers in store-bought yogurt is not so good for you. A couple of years ago I started researching how to make homemade yogurt and hopefully avoid the nasty additives and sugar and also save some money. I was pleasantly surprised to find that making yogurt is super easy! There are a number of variations on this recipes that you can find online. I’ve tried a couple of different ways, but this is what I’ve found to be easiest.

Ingredients:

1 Gallon of Whole Milk

1/2 Small Container of high quality yogurt (the fewer the ingredients and the more live active cultures the better!)

There are a few free homeschool resources that I’m seeing advertised online. You might want to check them out before they’re gone!

1. Right Brained Multiplication & Division free with promo code MoneySaving2. You don’t even need to enter your credit card information in to get this freebie. I don’t know how long this one lasts, so you might want to go and get it if you’re at all interested. I downloaded it and it looks pretty cool, though I’m not sure I need to use it as Bradley is doing quite well with his multiplication and division since using Times Tales (see my review).

Save Money on Laundry Soap!

Laundry Soap Recipe easy cheapLaundry: it’s a vicious cycle! As soon as I think I’ve got it all done and under control, there’s another load to do. The only thing I can get excited about regarding laundry is if it can somehow be made easier or cheaper.

I haven’t been able to figure out how to get it done any quicker or easier, but I have been able to make it cheaper!

I’ve been making my own laundry soap for about three years now. I originally saw people making laundry soap on a TV program, and when I saw what went into making it I knew there was no way I was going to be standing over a stove stirring a big pot of muck. The only way I was going to make my own laundry soap is if it was cheap, easy, and it cleaned well. This laundry soap recipe fits the bill!

It’s ludicrously cheap and easy to make. I figured it costs approximately $1.62 for each batch, which comes out to around 5¢ a load. And, it only takes 3 ingredients that you can simply whiz together in your food processor.

Recipe:

  • 2 Cups of Bar Soap (I use Ivory soap, and 2 bars is just about perfect. You can also use fels naptha. I tried it, but didn’t notice any difference in the cleanliness of my clothes so I went back to Ivory since it’s cheaper)
  • 1 Cup of Borax
  • 1 Cup of Washing Soda

Directions:

Coarsely chop the soap and then put all of the ingredients in your food processor. Mix together in your processor for a couple of minutes. Throw it in a container and use 2 tablespoons for each load of laundry. Sometimes I’ll use a little more for a large load of laundry or one that is heavily soiled.

Usually I make 4 or 5 batches at a time, so I have laundry soap that will last me for several months.
