If you know me, you know I love my Mexican food. Whether it’s making chipotle-style burrito bowls, southwest beef fajita salads, pollo fiesta, or going out for Mexican—I’m in!
Luke and I are a bit unconventional sometimes. We had a very small private ceremony when we were married, with just our immediate families were present. After the ceremony, where did we have dinner with our family? You better believe it—at our favorite Mexican restaurant of course!
Homemade Salsa for the Mexican foodie!
When we’re on the road with the kids, we frequently stop at Mexican restaurants. One, because we all love Mexican food and two, because it’s usually easy to find gluten-free food options.
Out of all the Mexican restaurants I’ve been to (and I’ve been to a lot), I’ve not often found salsa I enjoy as much as this easy recipe.
So when you’re making the Mexican at home, don’t skip the homemade salsa. You’ll wow your company, wow your spouse, and wow your kids. With just 5 ingredients, and 7 minutes, it’s worth the small extra effort.
This fresh 7 minute homemade salsa will rival even your favorite Mexican restaurant’s salsa.
7 Minute Homemade Salsa Recipe
Ingredients
- Jalapenos
- Onion
- Cilantro
- Canned or fresh tomatoes
- Salt
- Garlic optional
Instructions
- Put the jalapenos, onions, and cilantro in the food processor and finely chop. Add the rest of the ingredients and whiz around in the food processor to mix.
Notes
You can adjust the amounts of every ingredient to your taste, and tweak the recipe to suit your family’s preferences. Do you love lime? Add some juice, zest, or both! Really love garlic? Throw in a clove or two (or more). Try yellow, red, or Vidalia onions for different flavors. In summer, use fresh tomatoes (from your garden if you have one!) for the best flavor. If you hate cilantro, try parsley, or some basil or oregano.
This homemade salsa is so easy, you can whip it up in just 7 minutes. Just do it. You’ll be so glad you took the extra 7 minutes to do make this salsa instead of opening a jar.
Be sure to try this salsa on some of my favorite grain-free Mexican recipes:
- Chipotle-Style Burrito Bowls
- Southwest Beef Fajita Salad
- Pollo Fiesta
- Super Easy Shredded Mexican Meat
- Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Poblanos
- Fiesta Egg Scramble

What I love is there is no added sugar. Seems like the salsa recipes I find all add sugar. Thanks for sharing at Let’s Get Real Friday Link Party.

Sounds tasty! I use a similar recipe. I cannot wait until garden season so I can start making homemade salsa. 🙂
