Our aim with this whole series of 12 Christmas devotionals is to reinforce two important truths in our kids: first, we should be thankful for the daily gifts God has already given us; and second, we can see how all these gifts point to His greatest gift, Jesus Christ.
Tonight’s devotional was a perfect example of this. We had the boys open up small packages of “snack food.” (peanuts and raisins). They were excited to get an extra snack before bedtime. As they opened this gift we turned their attention to Mark 6:32-44 and John 6:25-35. We spoke to them about the compassion of Christ seen in the feeding of the 5000 and how Christ still shows His love to us by providing us with our “daily bread.” Then we spoke about Jesus as the Bread of Life, only one who can satisfy our souls and give us life forever.
Bradley and Cameron have started to really enjoy these devotionals, anticipating a new gift every night. We also started to do some review with them tonight, going over the previous nights’ lessons with them.
Bradley really wants us to write a parody of “The 12 Days of Christmas” to go with this series of devotionals, which would probably be a fun thing to do to make the whole thing even more memorable.
