Our first day in Eastern Virginia there was one thing we wanted to be sure our kids saw: the Atlantic Ocean. None of our kids had seen it before, so we decided to set out to the coast. We were not anticipating the adventure we had. We came to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. This bridge-tunnel is 17.6 miles shore to shore, connecting the mainland of Virginia to the Eastern Shore peninsula. Our kids loved watching the crashing waves from the bridges and then dipping down into the tunnel portions, dropping anywhere from 25 to 100 feet below water level. ...Read More
Preparing for Thanksgiving in Williamsburg
Nearly every Thanksgiving our family from Louisiana invites us to spend the holiday with them at their timeshare. We've been to places in Tennessee like Nashville (pretty fun) and Fairfield Glade (fairly boring), but this year we are headed to Williamsburg, Virginia. We are very excite about our trip because we see this as an opportunity to not only relax but teach our family something about our national heritage. The cities of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown enjoy a rich history as some of our nations earliest settlements in the 17th century. In particular, we have been preparing our oldest two sons Bradley ...Read More
From First Date to Wedding
Read the first two parts of our journey: "How we met on eHarmony" and "From eHarmony to First Date" Luke: I was glad Trisha needed to use the restroom as soon as she got to Starbucks, because I needed to catch my breath right after seeing her. As I stood there listening to the sounds of coffee being poured into double-sleeved cups, I kept saying to myself, "You can do this, Luke. Yes, she's really cute, but you can go on a date and not make a complete fool of yourself." By the time she came out, I had psyched myself up enough to continue with the night. Trisha: Yikes! Who was this crazy driver. One of the first ...Read More
From eHarmony to First Date
See the the first part of our journey here: "How we met on eHarmony" Luke: Our first phone call (a day we have nick-named our phone-aversary) happened on June 15, 2007. No one had given me eHarmony dating advice, and I was really nervous about my first conversation with an eHarmony prospect, but I quickly got over that and gave Trisha a call. Trisha was fun to talk to and even laughed at my jokes. Trisha: Unlike Luke, I really wasn't nervous about the call at all. I had experienced many first phone calls and was typically pretty disenchanted with the whole process. Surprisingly though, I found this particular ...Read More
How we met on eHarmony
Trisha: I never thought I would be a widow with a seven-month-old baby at 26 years of age. Lonely and desiring someone to share a life and family with, I gradually entered a very different dating scene than I had departed from before I got married six years prior. Dating wasn't near as much fun the second time around. This time I had to be concerned with finding someone who would not only love me, but also my son. I wanted to find someone who would gladly accept the position of both husband and Daddy. There were a number of websites I turned to in order to meet people... and meet people, I did. There were some ...Read More
We started a blog. Are you proud of us?
Well, after all of the debate regarding if we should have a blog and what to call our blog, we've finally done it. We had some rather benign, boring names for our blog at the beginning. But we feel this name is more fun and more accurately reflects our approach to life. We desire to live a healthy life, serving God, having fun while doing it. We're excited to be starting a blog enabling us to dialog about issues that are important and interesting to us. Some of the topics that we're excited to begin writing about include: Homeschooling Our Reformed Christian faith Family life with four boys including twins ...Read More
