Summer is here, and with it comes a slew of new “friends,” some of whom are a tad too friendly for my taste. Thank goodness for homemade items like Itch Be Gone Paste, which only takes two ingredients to make!
Down here in the South, we’ve been dealing with some of these friends for far too long already. The beginning of April saw the fire ants coming out to play, and by the middle of the month we were being visited by the ever-friendly mosquitoes.
Though I do use homemade bug repellent on my kids, they often run out to the backyard to play without me spraying them down first. And of course, with four kids opening and forgetting to close back doors all day, there are inevitably a few mosquitoes that make it in the house and devour any unsuspecting victim they may find.
For these times, we thankfully have The Itch Be Gone Paste. Every child knows where the itch be gone paste is located, and applies it liberally to their bites, or in the case of the 2-year old, any scratch she deems necessary. 😉
This simple Itch Be Gone Paste remedy is super easy to whip up, lasts for months when stored in the fridge, and is easy to apply. Made from only two natural ingredients, water and bentonite clay, it’s safe enough for children and babies. For all you essential oil lovers, you can add a few drops of a soothing/healing oil, like lavender or melaleuca, as well.

I had on hand my homemade deodorant made from baking soda, bentonite clay, coconut oil, shea butter and essential oils, and thought I would try it on the huge welts my daughter got from her bug bites – and it worked! It helps relieve the itching and also helps the bites to go away sooner.

Whatever works, eh? 😉 Thanks for sharing, Erin!

Never heard of that clay. Will have to check it out and see if my husband will actually use this for all his bites.
Raia
My husband uses it most for fire ant bites. It really helps draw out the toxins.

Can you substitute bentonite clay with lanolin clay?
Raia
Hmm… I’m not sure the benefits of lanolin clay are the same as bentonite, Elisa, so I would probably not try it. But feel free to experiment and see if it works, if you want. 🙂

Where could I find the clay?? I’ve never heard of it!
Raia
I buy it on amazon.com, but you might be able to find it at a health food store. 🙂
