Summer is here! That calls for lazy afternoons running through the sprinklers and eating popsicles. With food allergies and a desire to feed my kids less sugar, it can be hard to find treats they are willing to eat.
These homemade sugar-free fudgesicles are a win all around. The chocolatey creaminess paired with the ripe bananas provide just enough sweetness for my boys to beg for more.
The recipe is pretty simple: canned coconut milk, a few ripe bananas, and cocoa powder. Mix it all up and freeze. I added vanilla extract to one batch, which I loved but the boys didn’t like.
Your kids will be thrilled with the treat of a chocolate popsicle, and you can be satisfied knowing you’re feeding them real, nutritious food with no processed sugar or dairy!
I know with a houseful of growing boys, it’s sometimes a challenge to keep up with their incessant appetites. It might be easier to feed them pre-made, store-bought snacks and treats, but their health is too important to me to do that (at least not on a regular basis). And with food allergies in the family besides, which I know many families understand and also deal with, it makes it harder to find snacks that my kids love but that are really good for them to eat.
I hope that this recipe, along with the others here on Intoxicated on Life, are helpful to you as you seek to feed your family well: food that is good for them, but also tastes really good!
Some of our family’s other favorite treats that are also dairy-free and refined-sugar-free are this Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake (with no cheese and you’d never know!) and this easy Berry Smoothie, which is another fast and yummy summer treat.

Bananas have quite a bit of sugar in them! Maybe a version without fruit?
Trisha Gilkerson
Not for this particular recipe. If you’re trying to keep your sugar down, this isn’t probably the best recipe unless you’re looking for a healthy treat ever now and then.

Do you think that rice milk would work for those that can’t have coconut or almond milk?
Trisha Gilkerson
I would guess that rice milk would likely work or even cows milk if you can have it.

What could be subbed for the bananas? I have a latex allergy and bananas and kiwis are cross irritants. I’ve been trying to think, but can’t come up with anything!

I’ve not tried it, but you might try avocado and add some more sweetener. I’ll bet that would do the trick! 🙂
