Description
A proverb is a short, pithy statement that states a general “rule of thumb” about wise living. Proverbs 10-29 contain hundreds of short proverbial statements, covering a wide variety of topics and situations. The foundational belief of the Book of Proverbs is that this world has a moral order, and God is the creator of that order. Wisdom is learning to recognize that order and live according to it.
While all Scripture is useful for teaching and correction (2 Tim. 3:16), the Proverbs are uniquely suited for parents to use with children.
Topics include:
- Lazy vs. Hardworking
- Sloppy vs. Diligent
- Deceitful vs. Truthful
- Emotionally Impulsive vs. Self-Controlled
- Greedy vs. Generous
- Indifferent vs. Attentive to Elders
- Argumentative vs. Obedient
- Hurtful Words vs. Kind Words
- Prideful vs. Humble
- Envious vs. Rejoicing with Others
- Quarreling vs. Peacemaking
- Bad Friendships vs. Good Relationships
- Bitter vs. Forgiving
- Complaining vs. Gratefulness

Laura –
I had the opportunity to use this resource for the second time today. I have a six year old boy (only child) who has been cared for during the day outside of the home until just a few months ago. Now that I’m home with him full-time, I have the ability to teach and discipline my child using the Bible. Both times I have used this resource following a behavior (heart) issue. I sat him down face to face and was able to read the book chapter to him with the scripture that related to the issue. Both times I was able to calmly and maturely respond, instead of react, to the situation. Being able to read the appropriate chapter allows my son to know that this training comes from the Bible, not from me, and he responds better to that. The story is short enough to keep his attention, but long enough to not gloss over the topic. He relates well to what is read and the dialogue questions at the end help reinforce what we have learned. I have not used the extra listed scriptures yet, but look forward to using them in the future. I love how easy it is to open the Table of Contents, find the topic that relates to the current issue, turn to the right page and GO!
