I am in love with this sugar free cream cheese frosting recipe.
A good frosting is a must in the life of a mom. With birthdays and get-togethers, cupcakes are always a hit to bring. I love that the individual portions are easy to handle and cut down on the mess. Cream cheese frosting is one that goes with just about any muffin or cupcakes, and well, let’s face it, who doesn’t love cream cheese?

Sugar free cream cheese frosting: a yummy and versatile cupcake topping
This sugar free cream cheese frosting whips up fast and is also gluten-free. We try to limit sugar when we can and the stevia used in this recipe works well to make it nice and sweet. But, if you have no issues with sugar, a few tablespoons of honey work like a charm.
I find that I can use this sugar free cream cheese frosting to frost 12 cupcakes when I am piping it on to make it look ‘fancy’. If I’m just spreading it on with a knife, this recipe will frost about 18 cupcakes. This is also about enough frosting to cover one 9×13 cake, but if you need enough to fill and frost a layer cake, double or even triple the recipe. (Leftovers are always delicious eaten straight from the fridge on a spoon!)
You can also make this a chocolate cream cheese frosting by adding a tablespoon or two of cocoa powder, and a little liquid (such as unsweetened almond milk) to get the frosting the correct consistency. Start with a teaspoon of liquid and slowly add more if needed.
Be sure to refrigerate any baked goods topped with this cream cheese frosting, since the dairy can spoil and it’s not full of sugar (which acts as a preservative).

I really appreciate your advice about the stevia. It is true, it is best to sweeten to taste! And if I made this recipe, I would LOVE tasting it as I made it, lol! Looks delicious!

For the frosting using tapicoa flour what could i substitute tapicoa flour for?
Jessica
Hi Sue. You could try using non-GMO cornstarch. You want something light, that will help it ‘hold’.

Hi Meg! Yes, I have done this with honey. Just watch consistency, it may need a touch more starch. 🙂

Yes, that would work just fine.

My daughter cannot do ANY starch. Would unflavored gelatin maybe be a good substitute? If so, how would I go about that?
Kristy
Sounds amazing! Just wondering…did you figured out the nutritional info for the frosting? Please share if you have. Thanks!

Hi Jessica, Can I use the same amount of Arrowroot flour in place of tapioca starch?
Thank you.
Trisha Gilkerson
You can certainly give it a try! We haven’t tested the recipe with arrowroot flour but it likely would work in a similar way to thicken the frosting.
