The Five Doors of the Heart
How do you create an environment of purity in your home, starting with the heart? It starts teaching children to keep watch over their hearts (Proverbs 4:23). This information is presented in full in Planned Purity for Parents, by Jennie Bishop (based on Proverbs 4:20-22, 24-27).
- Sight: “Let your eyes look straight ahead” (what your eyes see)
- Hearing: “Listen closely to my words” (what your ears hear)
- Smell: “[My words] are life to those who find them” (treating the breath/life as sacred)
- Taste: “Put away perversity from your mouth” (what we say)
- Touch: “Make level paths for your feet, and take only ways that are firm” (modeling godly touch)
Ages and Stages:
Birth-5 years old
- Correct body part names
- Celebrate new life
- Keep information brief and literal
6-7 years old
- Good touch vs. Bad touch
8-10 years old
- Internal and external anatomy
- How babies are made
- Sex is about intimacy and closeness and is reserved for marriage
- Porn and sexual media
11-12 years old
- Puberty changes
- Masturbation
- Nocturnal emissions
- Orgasm
- Oral sex
- STDs
- What you hope for them in their sex lives
13-15 years old
- No topic, if discussed in a God-honoring and frank way, is off-limits
